Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) is actively seeking a highly qualified technical editor to support our team of intelligence analysts developing open source intelligence reports (OSIRs). The technical editor will work with a team of government customers and analysts to edit and iterate on reports that meet intelligence community quality standards and adequately meet the information needs of the customer. The ideal candidate will demonstrate full proficiency in English, have exceptional written communication, and will have experience as a technical editor and formatter. This position is in Reston, VA.

Technical Editor - Open Source Intelligence Reports (OSIRs) Position Requirements:

The technical editor will be integral to team operations and will be the final quality control point for all technical reporting produced by the program team. As such, the ideal candidate must be able to act as a liaison between government staff, intelligence analysts, and report consumers to iterate on technical analytical reports and perform editing tasks that result in high quality open source intelligence reports.

The editor must demonstrate a willingness to support team members in the development and review of technical analytical reports. The technical editor will need to be able to effectively work with intelligence analysts who have pride of authorship and be able to edit documents for clarification without altering the meaning of the intelligence analysis.

In this position candidates will:

  • Review government requests that identify intelligence analysis requirements

  • Use judgment to determine if reports are logically organized, answers the government requirement and includes relevant supporting material/sources

  • Revise draft text, working closely with the primary author, discussing recommended changes, obtaining information for revisions, and ensuring mutual agreement on the final report content

  • Work with foreign language intelligence analysts to ensure information is easily readable for an English-speaking customer base and conveys the analytical intent of the analyst

  • Ensure quality control; consistency of expression, logical organization and development, readability, and conformity of grammar and style to OSIR standards

  • Coordinate with the Foreign Disclosure Office to ensure reports are classified according to the OSIC Security Classification Guide

  • Support dissemination, configuration management, and archival tasks as needed

Technical Editor - Open Source Intelligence Reports (OSIRs) Required Qualifications:

  • US Citizen with Top Secret clearance and willing to submit to a polygraph

  • Bachelor's Degree along with 5-7 years of relevant work experience, equivalent professional experience (at least 11 years) will be considered for talented candidates without a degree

  • Team player with excellent communication skills and ability to work in team environment

  • Full proficiency in written and spoken English language

  • Experience editing technical or analytical reports for government customers

  • Experience reviewing and iterating on technical content to produce high quality presentations and documents

Additional Desirable Qualifications:

  • Native English spoken and written communication ability

  • Experience working in the intelligence community or with analytical intelligence reports

  • Experience reviewing, compiling and/or editing open source intelligence reports (OSIRs)

  • Knowledge of additional languages: Arabic, Chinese, Farsi, Russian, Uzbek
