Compensation :

Salary Range (Grade D/636): $93,473- $147,748.

UTLO rate : $131,500

Responsibilities :

This position is responsible for the electric supply services to all electrically operated equipment in the Subway System, this includes traction power, signal power, substations, power to shops, ventilation fans, lighting, and pumps. The position is responsible for a system which is runs 24/7/365. Responsible for the adequacy/safety of the traction power system and must make decisions to ensure train service is not impacted and secure the limits of power on/off requests from personnel working along the ROW, coordinating with utility companies for availability of redundant power. Often, these decisions must be made under conditions of incomplete information and extreme time constraints. Monitor and coordinate activities having an impact on the power system and substations. These activities can occur simultaneously throughout the system and involve directing personnel from many groups outside of Power. Manage subordinates whose positions must always be covered, therefore required to work overtime to fill any vacant position for which relief is unavailable. Prepare for emergency response, coordinate efforts to safeguard assets, direct personnel, provide written reports, and forecast materials, manage personnel availability, and oversee all Capital projects within their responsibility. Accountable for managing the operation, maintenance and repair of automatic substations and related equipment. Manages employees in the safe maintenance/repair of substation equipment and facilities containing hazards (mercury and asbestos). Assists the Gen Supt to develop maintenance programs that maximize manpower usage and increase maintenance completion. Directs the operation of the A/B1/82 power system to provide a reliable supply of traction, signal, and auxiliary power for the safe and efficient operation of the system. Responsible for an 1100MW power system composed of 225 substations with 380 rectification units, which supplies all traction power to 476 miles of third rail amongst all four boroughs s e rved by NYCT.

Education and Experience :

  1. High School Diploma or Equivalent and a minimum of six ( 6 ) years of experience, of which three ( 3 ) years must have been in a managerial or supervisory capacity -OR-

  2. A satisfactory equivalent of education and experience.

    Desired Skills :

    Knowledge of NYCT and Subways rules, regulations, polices, and procedures with respect to electrical power maintenance and repair. Strong project management skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of rapid transit operations. The ability to make sound decisions under pressure.

    Selection Method :

    Based on evaluation of education, skills, experience, and interview.

    All appointments, with the exception of the Department of Subways employees on MABSTOA payroll, will be made on the NYCT payroll.
