We are seeking applicants for the Lab Analyst position. The successful candidate will have the ability to strictly follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) encompassing a variety of procedures, with a commitment to detail and accuracy is a requirement of this position. As analysts work closely with each other, other lab staff, and lab management in a professional work environment, reliability and a well-developed ability to communicate both orally and written, are required.

Typical functions include:

• Sample dissolutions using acid and fusion methods.

• Instrumental analysis on inorganic samples including Flame AA, IC, ICP-OES, ICP-MS, Leco instrumentation, and titration instruments

• Wet chemical analyses such as leaching, solvent extraction, ion exchange, gravimetric analyses, ISE analysis, and other methods

• Lab cleanup and organization

• Instrument maintenance

• Making/verifying standards and calibrations

• Performing initial data verification and review

• Construct bench and pilot scale systems

Primary function of the role is run the ICP and ICP-MS instrumentation (Perkin Elmer) and OES scan for analysis of trace metals on elements. No sample preparation is needed. Additionally, the Lab Analyst will need to backlog, analyze and review data (including the data from other chemists and lab analysts). The Lab Analyst will use data for trace levels to create standards. Sample load in the lab varies, depending on the amount of projects from clients, but is normally around 50-75 samples per day. As projects come up, lab priorities may change, so candidates must be adaptable, willing to change and re-adjust and go with the flow. THhis adjustment could be during the day or week and could result in a pivot in the work to a new/different client project. About 80% of the lab work is analytical and 20% of the work is analytical for the clients (could involve method development).

This lab is not a production lab, but a research lab, so the pace of work is less than a production lab, but you must still hit deadlines and submit quality work.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

Candidates with a minimum of 3-4 years of analytical ICP-MS experience are ideally qualified. Additional skills that are very helpful include digestions, OES, IC and maintenance, troubleshooting and method development on ICP-MS (Perkin Elmer).
