Responsibilities

This is a remote position and will require up to 50% travel.

The System Director, Education and Practice is responsible for developing and ensuring that professional practice competencies are incorporated into all CommonSpirit Health virtual nursing roles, new hires and their standard job description requirements. They guide the direction for professional practice, research and Evidence Based Practice (Evidence Based Practice across CommonSpirit Health system, division, and local organizations for virtual models of care. This position will need to be evidence based and research focused in the design and implementations of new models. In collaboration with divisional nursing leadership the System Director, Education and Practice implements strategies and infrastructure to establish, maintain, and enhance professional practice through EBP, research and reductions in clinical variation. This includes providing the guidance, education and leadership needed to define a national nursing practice model and governance structure that promotes clinician autonomy and professional practice standards to ensure patient safety, well-being, and overall clinical excellence. This role advocates for nursing and represents nursing practice in the clinical enterprise by working collaboratively with the inter-professional team to optimize patient outcomes. Responsible for leading, educating and facilitating excellence in nursing practice and nursing care models across the continuum.

Responsibilities

  • Provides collaboration with the clinical and nursing leadership for the development, implementation and evaluation of professional and evidence based practice across the organization. Fosters an environment of continuous learning and scientific inquiry by overseeing and strengthening the Nursing Research and EBP programs.

  • Develops and implements the strategic direction for virtually integrated care models ensuring alignment and consistency with the Nursing Strategic Plan and the organization’s goals and objectives.

  • Directs and designs curriculums to train and update skills and knowledge for virtually integrated care resources and collaborates with market and division education leaders on evaluations and performance criteria that aligns with all federal and state regulatory guidelines.

  • Advocates the professional nursing practice through partnerships, linkages and collaboration among inter-professional staff and leaders, affiliated academic institutions and professional organizations.

  • Provides support with Virtually Integrated Care models to ensure they support activities required to achieve, maintain, and sustain ANCC Magnet® and or Pathway to Excellence®.

  • Collaborates with staff and leaders at every level and develops innovative programs to educate, mentor and enhance knowledge of researched and evidence-based practices.

  • Develops and assures clinical competencies for all functional clinicians supporting new models of care.

  • Provides expertise in state nursing boards and licensure legislation that would impact the ability to implement new models, new approaches to clinical practice within the state where the model exists.

  • Aligns with national experts, HR, the system leaders of Transformation and Innovation, and the CNE of the division around desired models.

  • Demonstrates expertise in assuring practice in that location is supported by state, national and Supports the division's strategies to improve quality of care linking EBP and research to improved patient outcomes, improved operational efficiencies, patient satisfaction/experience and clinician wellbeing and engagement.

  • Participates with CSH National research programs for nursing utilizing tools and approaches as established by CSH Professional Practice division.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (e.g. BSN) or equivalent education and Master's degree in nursing or other-related fields (e.g., MSN/MBA/MHA).

  • Doctorate in nursing preferred (e.g. DNP, PhD) If master’s degree is not in nursing, a baccalaureate or doctorate in nursing is required.

  • Minimum of 10 years nursing experience, with at least 5 years in a nursing leadership role required; experience in a multi-hospital system preferred.

  • Demonstrated publications for evidence based practice models or defined professional changes through new model design.

  • Magnet or TCAB experience desired. Change management expertise and training desired.

  • History of positive teaching methods to include simulation, didactic lectures, online learnings that have achieved goals of improvement in clinician performance in other professional engagements with clinical nurses and other professions.

  • Expert in writing grant proposals and in designing research level plans that will enhance clinical outcomes and lead to change within the clinical practice environment.

Required Licensure and Certifications

  • Registered Nursing License (RN) in state of practice, multi-state may be required in some divisions.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Training

  • Demonstrated ability to design and achieve positive changes and outcomes utilizing Kotter's Change Management principles.

  • Demonstrated ability to project and manage proposed clinical improvement outcomes that result in achievement of targeted KPI’s for the care model.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of industry profession practice regulations and competencies provides evidence of education and competency programs they have developed high degree of knowledge and capability in change management, LEAN and/or Value Stream and/or Kaizen and/or Six Sigma methodologies

  • Excellent customer service, written, verbal and interpersonal communication and presentation skills

  • Advanced research, analysis skills

  • Excellent collaboration, organizational and problem-solving skills

  • Competent ability to evaluate operational data and develop operational scorecards for leadership consumption

  • Advanced knowledge/experience with Google Suite and/or MS Office - Slides/PowerPoint, Docs/Word, Google Sheets/MS Excel, MS Visio, and/or related applications

  • Understands how to anticipate, recognize, and deal effectively with existing or potential conflicts at the individual, group, or situation level; ability to apply this understanding appropriately to diverse situations

  • Knowledge of effective self-management practices and ability to manage multiple concurrent objectives, projects, groups, or activities, making effective judgments as to prioritizing and time allocation

  • Demonstrated ability to drive change, i.e., proactively identify and act upon opportunities, motivate others during times of organizational change and ambiguity, create an environment that encourages sharing of best practices and alerting groups to alternative approaches.

Pay Range

$56.83 - $82.40 /hour
