In the role of a Battery Electric Manufacturing Project Engineer you will provide technical expertise in manufacturing process development projects for the continuous improvement of the safety, quality, velocity and cost of manufacturing. This role’s primary focus will be projects related to support of the Battery Electric Machine (BEM) programs and process development.

What you will do:

• Leading assembly, fabrication, machining, manufacturing processing, cost estimating, systems planning, layout, standards, releasing, gauging and checking equipment, tooling and work standards.

• Managing development, implementation and issue resolution of the operating methods, equipment, systems and other operating infrastructure used to realize program goals and objectives.

• Coordinating release dates and availability of machines, equipment and material schedules to satisfy program build schedules. Ensuring implementation of modern technology and verifies the effectiveness of equipment and systems.

Project Management: Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives.

Level Working Knowledge:

• Provides input for Gantt or PERT charts or their equivalent to track project progress and status.

• Under guidance, plans and estimates simple projects.

• Assists in detailed project plans including cost, schedule, and resource requirements.

• Obtains information from stakeholders during the planning stage of a project.

• Produces standard project status reports.

Manufacturing Best Practices and Standards: Knowledge of best practices and standards for improving the effectiveness, efficiency, and safety of the design, production, and distribution of manufacturing products; ability to create and implement best practices and standards for various manufacturing processes and activities.

Level Working Knowledge:

• Analyzes the feasibility of applying best practices within a manufacturing facility.

• Describes common problems and implementation issues with applying best practices.

• Explains the process of creation, dissemination, and maintenance of best practice documentation.

• Reviews and assesses proposed criteria for identifying best practices.

• Works with existing best practices within own's area of responsibility.

Manufacturing Process Design and Development: Knowledge of how to develop or design a manufacturing process; ability to establish and determine which processes and parameters should be opted to improve functionality and costs.

Level Working Knowledge:

• Describes various types of manufacturing processes and steps to design each one of them.

• Draws flowcharts and diagrams to represent the process design.

• Follows manufacturing policies and guidelines when designing a process.

• Outlines operational and safety issues while implementing a development process.

• Researches new ways and approaches that can help enhance process design activities.

Capacity Planning & Management - MFG: Knowledge of tools, approaches and practices for determining production demand and ability to manage resources needed to provide satisfactory levels of service.

Level Working Knowledge:

• Documents major considerations of product promotions and analyzes their effect on production and required capacity.

• Provides management reports on actual and projected capacity requirements.

• Uses available tools to interpret forecasts and work out required capacity.

• Participates in developing short-term capacity requirements for a specific product or plant.

• Collects and collates key elements of demand chain used in developing capacity requirements.

Change Control - MFG: Knowledge of the processes and procedures by which a change is identified, evaluated, approved, monitored and documented; ability to manage changes in the production environment and processes effectively.

Level Working Knowledge:

• Assesses errors that occur during change execution, and takes action in correcting these errors.

• Conducts impact analyses to determine the effect change might have on the status of current production environment.

• Implements routine changes to the production environment; documents the changes made.

• Follows the established change control process to ensure the performance of emergency repair and maintenance.

• Prevents unauthorized or unintended deviations in compliance with that of change control policies.

Lean Manufacturing: Knowledge of the philosophy, principles and implementation approaches of lean manufacturing; ability to integrate and implement lean manufacturing philosophy into existing production and management processes.

Level Extensive Experience:

• Manages the adoption of lean manufacturing principles across the organization.

• Teaches others about how lean approach integrates operations, customers, logistics and product development.

• Consults on work cell design and plan layout in support of lean principles.

• Consults on the use of lean approaches across multiple functions.

• Trains others on key lean measurements and tools and techniques for measuring performance.

• Participates in detailed planning for implementing and monitoring lean manufacturing.
