As a Clinical Social Work Supervisor, you will play a pivotal role in providing first-line supervision to social work professionals and support staff within our department. Your primary responsibilities will involve conducting face-to-face sessions with patients, conducting thorough assessments, developing treatment plans, and delivering supportive counseling, crisis intervention, and brief therapy.

Your caseload will encompass a diverse range of individuals, including inpatients and their family members, across various clinical needs. These needs may include psychological stress related to health impairments, chronic illness, trauma, death and dying, marriage and family dysfunction, and substance abuse. You will also specialize in working with victims of intimate partner violence, abuse, or exploitation, guiding them towards healthy boundaries and effective communication techniques.

A key aspect of your role will be collaborating with patients and team members to ensure the implementation of the healthiest coping responses and facilitating timely and safe discharge plans. Based on comprehensive assessments, you will make appropriate community referrals for follow-up care as necessary. Additionally, you will serve as a liaison between medical staff and patients/families, providing interventions to minimize stress and enhance coping skills to expedite recovery.

Furthermore, you will supervise bachelor's and master's level students, providing guidance and mentorship as they develop their skills in clinical social work. Your role will also involve acting as a liaison to the community through public speaking engagements and participating in clinical training and supervision of MSW staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide first-line supervision to social work professionals and support staff.

  • Conduct face-to-face sessions with patients to conduct assessments, develop treatment plans, and deliver counseling and therapy.

  • Work with diverse populations experiencing various clinical needs, including psychological stress, chronic illness, trauma, and substance abuse.

  • Specialize in working with victims of intimate partner violence, abuse, or exploitation.

  • Collaborate with patients and team members to maximize coping responses and facilitate discharge plans.

  • Make appropriate community referrals for follow-up care.

  • Serve as a liaison between medical staff and patients/families.

  • Supervise bachelor's and master's level students and provide clinical training and supervision to MSW staff.

  • Act as a liaison to the community through public speaking engagements.

  • Provides direct social work service to patients and families and/or groups of patients by providing assistance with social and practical environmental problems.

  • Provides emotional support to patients and families and/or groups of patients who may exhibit feelings of anxiety and stress precipitated by illness and hospitalization.

  • Conducts interventions based on needs identified during initial assessment.

  • Advocates for patient and family wishes when appropriate.

  • Provides emotional support to patient and family during hospitalization.

  • Educates patient and family on the intent of the intervention as needed.

  • Inform care team patient and family of anticipated post-discharge needs.

  • Maintains acceptable working knowledge of resources needed to provide patients with continuity of care before and after discharge.

  • Participates in in-service and staff development activities by attendance serving on planning committees and/or offering topics for pertinent educational programs.

  • Documents all activities relevant to casework discharge planning and follow-up in accordance with UVA and Social Work Policy Procedure and Guidelines and regulatory requirements.

  • Participates in education/research activities.

  • Acts as liaison between the hospital and outside agencies/legal authorities and referral sources.

  • Acts as therapist in daily therapy sessions and provides individual counseling/problem solving sessions as needed.

  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Position Compensation Range: $62,670.40 - $100,276.80 Annual

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Master's degree in Social Work from a CSWE accredited social work program required

Experience: 5 years relevant experience

Licensure: Licensed to practice as a Social Worker in the Commonwealth of Virginia (LCSW).

Job requirements: None required. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
