New York University (NYU) Berlin is seeking a part-time lecturer to teach a course entitled "Food, Culture, and Globalization" in the Spring 2025 semester.

The course “Food, Culture and Globalization” is to explore current transformations in food systems and cultures under the conditions of globalization, underpinned by an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approach. The sessions are a mixture of lecture, seminar discussion and possibly field trips and other activities. Through the course, students are to develop an appreciation for the historical, geographical, biological, social and cultural diversities of food production, distribution and consumption and their specific connection to social and environmental relations within the Berlin and greater Germany landscape. Students will learn to master established concepts about contemporary urban food cultures and produce new knowledge about them. The course is taught in English, runs from January 16 to May 9, and will meet once a week on NYU Berlin’s campus.

Ideal candidates should be excellent teachers, who can demonstrate an ability to lead rigorous class discussion, develop assignments that lead students through critical analysis of complex and multi-layered investigations, offer constructive criticism of student projects, and understand the importance of student-led inquiry in the classroom.

Additional Qualifications:

• Doctorate in a relevant discipline, such as cultural studies, history or anthropology

• Record of research and publications in the field

• A minimum of three years' teaching experience at the university level

• Fluency in English

• German work-permit and tax number at the time of application, covering the entire period of employment

• Preference will be given to candidates who have been doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows in the US and/or have international teaching experience.
